BBC RaW is a drive to help the 12 million adults of working age in the UK who don’t currently engage with reading and writing.
RaW (Read and Write) targets intermediate readers (entry level 3, level 1) providing an informal space for this audience to engage with reading and writing, making it relevant, practical and fun. BBC Learning wants to collaborate with organisations working informally in their communities.
Complementing existing work, “RaW centres” will encourage reading and writing for enjoyment, offering informal learning opportunities for adults. RaW centres can pick and choose how they get involved, but they might choose to take part in RaW swaps, host RaW quizzes or run ‘RaW reads’ – specialist reading groups targeted towards people’s passions.
A promotional film giving further details is available to view at www.bbc.co.uk/raw/campaign, where you can also sign up (please note that libraries do not need to sign up here).
