Free support materials and learner packs were distributed to prisons throughout the English regions as part of a campaign to engage offenders. We have worked closely with the Offenders’ Learning and Skills Unit (OSLU) and Heads of Learning and Skills in prisons to develop a campaign relevant to offenders. The campaign aims to increase language, literacy and numeracy skills which evidence suggests will lead to increased self-esteem and a reduction in re-offending. Branded learner packs containing notebooks, puzzles and interactive materials to encourage and promote learning were selected as a result of a detailed consultation with prisons. An important part of this pack included a CD produced in partnership with Radio for Development. This informative CD contained positive guidance from fellow inmates on issues such as skills for life, keeping in contact with family, health, wellbeing, and fitness. The Learner packs also included inspiring case studies to illustrate how other offenders have positively benefited from learning. We hope that you have found the learner packs both useful and informative. In order to evaluate their effectiveness, we would be grateful if you could spare a few moments to fill in our online evaluation form. We value your feedback and your comments will help us to deliver future campaigns in this area. Click here to take part in the online evaluation Key ContactsToby Walker Claire Woodward |
