Adult Learners' Week in London

Main contact: Amanda Pavon-Lopez

Promotional activity and the annual regional Awards Ceremony for London's Regional Adult Learners' Week are coordinated by Amanda Pavon-Lopez. Amanda runs her own consultancy, and has worked extensively in the adult learning sector, in particular working with further education providers, NIACE, the Standards Unit of the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Institute of Education. She also works in a more specialist Skills for Life field, including with Lancaster University's Skills for Life Improvement Programme, Tribal Education and Cambridge Training and Development, and the East of England Development Agency (EEDA).

Over the past two years Adult Learners' Week in London has been supplemented with an additional project funded by the London Development Agency, concentrating on raising the profile of learning tasters in the vocational skills area. Over 1500 people have received support funding in this area, and the project also funded two photography competitions as part of the annual Awards celebrations.

London Adult Learners' Week 2008 is benefiting from support from many partners, in particular through the sponsoring of individual adult learning awards in the London Regional Awards Ceremony, which will be held in the Brunei Gallery at SOAS on 22nd May. Awards have been sponsored by Birkbeck College for Access to Higher Education; by the Pro-Active Partnerships for Learning through Sport; by the London Voluntary Service Council for Learning through the Voluntary Sector; and Unionlearn for Learning through the Unions.

Other partners actively involved in supporting Adult Learners' Week in London through the steering group include the Central London Learning Partnership, the BBC, the South London Learning Partnership, the London Libraries Development Agency, the Government Office for London, City Lit, the Workers' Educational Association (WEA), UfI, and the Museums, Libraries and Archives.

We also work closely with other campaigns which are part of Adult Learners' Week. The Campaign for Learning are part of the steering group ensuring that Learning at Work Day is effectively integrated into the rest of the week's activities. Likewise, we have developed a very successful partnership with Digital Unite to support the running of Silver Surfers' Day.

London's Adult Learners' Week also benefits from its own website, hosted by Red Kite Learning and maintained by the Central London Learning Partnership. For more information on Adult Learners' Week in London, please click on http://www.cllp.org.uk/AdultLearnersWeek
