Museums play a vital role in creating a learning society. While museums have
proven adept at engaging children in learning, they must be more imaginative in
creating opportunities for adults to learn for pleasure and self-development.
As non-formal learning environments, museums are ideally placed to excite and
intrigue adults whose experiences of formal learning may have been negative.
Experts from both the museum and adult learning sectors will discuss
innovative projects and explore how the sectors can work more closely and
productively together to encourage lifelong learning. They will explore key
issues in promoting and gathering evidence of learning and measuring impact.
Who is it for?
curators
all staff involved in learning, education and marketing
staff with responsibility for inclusion and access, and community
partnerships
educators, administrators and policy makers in adult learning
arts workers and volunteers in museums.
What will I learn?
how to foster lasting partnerships and collaboration between museums and
adult learning institutions
how to initiate and sustain adult learning projects
ways of identifying key issues and developing strategic objectives for
promoting adult learning in museums.
