New legislation and single equalities and what it means to you The government is committed to addressing inequalities and discrimination in
society. The recommendations in the equalities review ‘Fairness and Freedom’
will affect you. It offers:
A new comprehensive framework for measuring progress towards equality
A new legal framework - simpler, more coherent and outcome focused
More accountability for delivering equality
A more sophisticated enforcement regime
Inevitably there are challenges. This workshop will explore these issues,
consider the implications for disability equality in practice and the approach
towards single equalities.
The June regional workshop will enable you to:
Consider single equalities, new legislation and what it means for you
Hear directly from Principals or Senior Managers about leading change in
equality
Actively explore good practice and practical solutions in relation to the
project in your region and:
Carrying out impact assessments
Embedding equality within self assessment and planning processes
Strategies for involving disabled people
Meeting the employment duties
Engaging the voluntary and community sector
Receive a copy of the Disability Rights Commission’s guidance for
post-school providers on implementing disability legislation and consider how
to use it
