Background & Aims

A national conference of great importance for the Further and Higher Education sectors at a significant time for revisiting models of collaboration.

The links between Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) are growing ever stronger.

New dimensions are continuously being added, for example:

bulletThe rising importance of foundation degrees
bulletEmployer engagement
bulletWork- based learning
bulletVocational progression
bulletWidening participation and social inclusion

New models of HE/FE partnership are emerging such as Lifelong Learning Networks.

The Government is stressing the importance of HE in FE – already 11% and set to increase while the proposal for foundation degree awarding powers in FE colleges would transform the F/HE landscape.
