The Learning and Skills Council (LSC). is supporting the development of
e-learning across Adult and Community Learning (ACL) through a wide range of
initiatives and processes. The conference showcases and celebrates innovative
e-learning projects funded by the LSC. These include:
TrEACL (Technology to enhance learning in ACL)
CACL (Content for Adult and Community Learning)
WIPE (Widening Participation)
RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement)
Weblogs projects for Teaching and Learning
E-Skills Passport
ITQ in ACL (accreditation of IT and e-learning skills).
These projects range across the ACL curriculum and include specific strands
on Basic Skills, Family Learning, Modern Foreign Languages, Widening
Participation, Recording Learner Progress, Learning Diaries, Accreditation of
e-learning and IT skills for practitioners. In addition, technologies addressed
throughout the conference will include mobile technologies, Learning Platforms,
DVD and video production, interactive voting systems and content creation. This
conference aims to:
Explore new ways of using technology to deliver and support learning for a
variety of target groups
Share lessons learned and content outputs from projects
Provide extensive networking opportunities
Workshops will offer opportunities to discuss issues surrounding the
integration of technology into adult learning and there will be opportunities to
meet with and talk to project representatives.
Attendance at the conference is free and will be relevant to practitioners
delivering adult learning, ACL managers, staff and volunteers involved in
implementing e-learning initiatives and strategy.

Workshops: morning session
E-learning in Language, Literacy and Numeracy This workshop will give delegates the opportunity to
explore web-based templates and tutor-produced materials
that support the development of literacy, language and
numeracy.
Innovative Practice in Family Learning An interactive workshop exploring the use of technology in
family learning by examining illustrative practice and
resources from innovative projects.
E-learning and Modern Foreign Languages This workshop will investigate the uses of DVDs and CDs,
tutor created materials for inclusion on Virtual Learning
Environments (VLEs) and blogging between countries.
Widening Participation with ICT In this workshop, delegates will be given an overview of
WIPE projects from Harrow, Bolton , Kingston and the
Leicester Centre for Deaf People and will be invited to
explore how the outputs can be applied to their own
organisations.
Recording Learner Progress – RARPA and the use of Technology A hands-on workshop to explore the use of technology in
RARPA. Technologies illustrated include voting systems,
voice recorders, PDAs and digital cameras.
Learner Diaries – Using weblogs to support teaching and learning Using weblogs to support teaching and learning.
Mobile Technology – Hand held opportunities A hands-on workshop exemplifying the practical use of
hand held devices in teaching and learning.
IT Skills for Teachers (E-Skills Passport and ITQ)
Demonstration and exploration of process, practice and
resources for the accreditation of IT skills in post-16
using the ITQ.
Workshop I Interactive Café- Browse projects from TrEACL, CACL,
Weblogs, RARPA and WIPE. Talk informally to project representatives and view their outputs.
