Introducing the Literacy, Language and Numeracy online guide

This workshop will introduce the newly developed online guide, giving an
overview of the main features. It is an opportunity to explore the extensive
information and resources contained in the guide. The format will mirror an
awareness-raising session which has been developed to showcase the guide
within Trusts.
2) Literacy, Language and Numeracy – the crucial role
of line managers and supervisors
Margaret Kelvey
This interactive workshop will explore the role of line managers and
supervisors in identifying literacy, language and numeracy needs and
encouraging and supporting staff to access learning and development
opportunities. It will report on the findings and key recommendations
following the evaluation of the Awareness Raising CD ROMs which were
developed as part of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills
(DIUS) Embedding Project.
3) Introducing LLN at Personal Development Review
Colleen Blake and Martyn Roads
One of the most common queries managers and supervisors raise about literacy
language and numeracy skills is about how they can raise the issue during
the personal development review process. This workshop addresses this key
question; looks at what tools are available for assessment of LLN skills,
and looks at who is eligible to carry out assessment.
4) Using a Whole Organisation Approach – case study on
Move On Up / Quality Improvement Agency (QIA) London event: Jo Swindells Manchester event: Julie Mooney
Why is a Whole Organisation Approach to developing literacy language and
numeracy skills important? This workshop will explore:
• What the Whole Organisation Approach is
• Who should be involved
• The QIA work with nine sites in the health sector and progress to date
• The range of tools available - possibly looking at the health check in the
online guide
