Foremost among these is the launch of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005 – 2014), with other key initiatives including:
These international and national initiatives highlight the opportunities for
lifelong learning practitioners to develop educational responses to issues such
as global citizenship, social justice, sustainable development, equality and
diversity, human rights and conflict resolution. Due to be launched in Autumn
2005, the Learning and Skills Council’s Strategy for Sustainable Development
sets out a vision of a post-16 education and training sector which contributes
to sustainable development through the learning opportunities it delivers, its
management of resources and its engagement with communities. NIACE, the WEA and
the DEA are pleased to offer this event as a chance for practitioners to discuss
the emerging LSC sustainable development strategy, debate the international
