What is Catching Confidence?
Catching Confidence is an approach to identify and record changes in
confidence during learning. It is a way of helping learners to reflect on their
confidence in the learning situation and record any changes, which arise. It is
particularly helpful where learning is not accredited and fits comfortably
alongside the RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement)
process. Gaining confidence is one of the keys to the successful development of
literacy, language and numeracy skills through the governments’ Skills for Life
strategy and is relevant to the national Learning and Skills Council’s widening
participation strategy.
What does the workshop offer?
The workshop is designed to share the underpinning research, explore
approaches to identifying and recording changes in confidence and examine some
of the teaching and learning strategies, which seem to help build confidence.
All participants will receive a copy of the Catching Confidence pack containing
a summary research report, a tutor guide and photocopiable materials.
Who should attend?
All those responsible for organising and delivering teaching and learning,
including teachers, tutors, managers and organisers in adult learning,
particularly those who are able to cascade information to other colleagues.
Staff in the voluntary and community sector and their partners are particularly
welcome.
How will participants benefit?
Participants will have:
