Background

Building confidence and a sense of wellbeing is increasingly being seen as a means of enabling learners to make the most of their potential and to participate more fully in society. But how do you do it?

Discovering Potential offers practitioners on effective yet simple model for delivering sustainable guidance to their clients or participants.

Discovering Potential is a resource pack that supports practitioners and managers who work with adults with low self-esteem. The pack provides an essential resource for those working on a one-to-one basis with adults who are ‘hard-to-reach’, ‘marginalise’ or ‘socially-excluded’. Crossing different sectors such as health services, voluntary sector, education sectors and social services, it offers valuable advice and strategies for the pivotal role of inter-agency working.

The pack and the training will help you understand what is meant about health, self-esteem, learning and working in partnership, not just in relation to your work with clients, but for yourself and your organisation too.

All participants will receive a copy of Discovering Potential: A practitioner's guide to supporting improved self-esteem and well being through adult learning, and will learn about and experience the Discovering Potential model.

NIACE trainer will support participants through some of the concepts and exercises in the Discovering Potential pack. There will be opportunities to consider how these approaches can be integrated into practice.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

bulletUnderstand the concepts of health, self-esteem and learning.
bulletThink about how they work with others.
bulletConsider and discuss how health and learning impact on self-esteem.
bulletApply techniques for identifying the strengths and needs of clients themselves as practitioners and of their working organisations.
bulletPlan and devise working strategies for working with clients.
bulletDetermine how they can help clients, themselves and their organisations through the application of the Discovering Potential model.
bulletUse the Discovering Potential model for supporting improved self-esteem and well-being through adult learning.
