Using E-Learning across the ACL Curriculum

E-Guides: Lead by Example 2005-2006

[Background] [Programme] [Schedule of events] [E-Guides Plus Workshops]

Background

The E-Guides staff development programme has been developed to support Adult and Community Learning (ACL) staff in developing the use of e-learning across the curriculum. E-learning is learning supported or enhanced through the application of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) (e-learning Standards Lifelong Learning UK/FENTO, LSDA, 2005).

The programme aims to increase the use of e-learning in ACL through developing the skills and knowledge of E-Guides so that they are able to support colleagues from all subjects in their use of technology in teaching and learning. Each E-Guide is encouraged to develop an action plan for cascading their skills and knowledge for their local situation. E-Guides contribute to raising the quality of teaching and learning throughout their organisation.

The objectives of the programme are to:

bulletexplore the role of E-Guides.
bulletdevelop skills in the use of technology across the curriculum.
bulletconsider and plan models of cascade training and support.
bulletprovide E-Guides with materials for use with colleagues in the organisation.

This programme is funded by the National Learning Network and developed by NIACE and is delivered by NIACE in partnership with NLN partners.

The training programme takes place over three days. Events are held throughout the country and will take place from May to July and September to December 2005. Days 1 and 2 are consecutive and Day 3 brings groups of E-Guides together in a Regional Workshop approximately 4 weeks later. E-Guides need time and support before Day 3 to develop a cascade training programme.

Full details about the E-Guides programme can be found on the application form.

Important: This training is being run in England only (not Wales or Scotland)

E-Guides Plus Workshops

In addition to the 3-day E-Guides Training programme, we are making FREE follow-up workshops available during this academic year. Please see below for the dates and locations in your region of these additional E-Guides training opportunities.

Aim

To enable E-Guides to refresh and build on their skills and knowledge through practical hands-on workshops

The day is designed to be very flexible and the trainers will negotiate the programme with you. Training will take place in small groups. One very useful approach to the day has been to bring with you a lesson plan/scheme of work/area of your cascade programme for which you wish to develop content.

Training is delivered by an E-Guide trainer and the RSC Advisor for your area.

The following workshops are available:

  1. Exploring equipment
This workshop aims to develop skills in using different technologies and to consider their application in teaching and learning. Equipment available will include: Laptop, Digital camera, Data Projector, Wireless mouse and keyboard, Tablet PC, Interactive whiteboard, USB memory and a range of adaptive hardware.
  2. Creating content
This workshop aims to develop skills in using content creation software and web technologies. Topics available will include: Webquests, Course GenieTM, Microsoft® Word and Hot PotatoesTM.
  3. Developing cascade training
This workshop will provide an opportunity to meet with E-Guides to share, discuss and explore their experiences in developing cascade training within their own organisations.
