Training Background

In response to changing policy context and building on our successful series of one-day RARPA training days for managers delivered since 2006, NIACE has developed two new interrelated training programmes. They are also particularly relevant to organisations piloting phase 2 of Framework for Excellence.

Each one-day training programme is based on the RARPA approach and the staged process.

This programme, “Improving Teaching and Learning for Success”, focuses on how the staged process benefits learning in the classroom. (The “Demonstrating Impact for Quality” programme focuses on processes and systems demonstrating how the staged process contributes to learner progress and achievement in non-accredited learning).

Objectives

During the day participants will:

bulletHear about recent research on assessment, and explore the different purposes: initial/formative/summative
bulletExplore what the staged process of RARPA really means for themselves and their learners
bulletConsider creative and useful ways they and their learners can assess starting points, progress and achievement
bulletPractice giving and receiving feedback in different ways
bulletShare ideas about summarising and recording achievement for their own purposes, and for learners and managers

What are the benefits of attending "Improving Teaching and Learning for Success" training?

By the end of the day participants should be better able to:

bulletRelate the staged process to their own teaching and learning practice
bulletUndertake and use initial, formative and summative assessment
bulletEngage in feedback with learners for different purposes and in a variety of ways, appropriate to individuals’ needs and contexts
bulletHelp learners use assessment and feedback to take control of their own learning journey
bulletSummarise and report on learning, for the use of learners, other tutors, and the organisation.
bulletReport today’s learning to the right people in their organisation.

This training may contribute to the 30 hour (or pro-rata), CPD requirement, provided you demonstrate you have:

bulletCritically reflected on what you have learned
bulletEvidence how you have applied this to your practice
bulletEvidence how this has impacted on your learners' experience and success
