[Background] [Training Aim] [Objectives] [Benefits] [Programme Outline] [Application Form]

Are you a workplace trainer or assessor?

Do you manage staff development or workbased learning?

Would you like to support learners with dyslexia more effectively?

NIACE is offering a one-day training course based on its publication "Supporting learners with dyslexia in work-based learning". The training is designed to enable work-based learning practitioners and managers to support learners with dyslexia more effectively.

Training Background

Increasingly, adults are taking part in learning and training in the workplace or related to the workplace. About 10% of adults are thought to have dyslexia. As a result, work-based learning assessors, trainers and managers need to understand how to support learners with dyslexia effectively, so that they meet their legal obligations and enable learners to fulfil their potential.

NIACE's publication "Supporting learners with dyslexia in work-based learning" outlines the issues to consider in supporting learners with dyslexia in work-based learning, and suggest some approaches to effective support. This training will extend and develop these ideas, providing participants with practical, hands-on strategies to use with learners.

Training Aim

This one-day training course will provide you with general information about dyslexia and its impact on learning, practical approaches to supporting learners with dyslexia, and an exploration of some of the potentially controversial issues that surround this topic.

Objectives

By the end of this training course you will:

bulletBe aware of the ways in which dyslexia can have an impact on learning
bulletBe familiar with a range of practical strategies and approaches to support learners with dyslexia in work-based learning
bulletHave considered some of the issues that have an impact on support for learners with dyslexia, such as dyslexia assessment, funding and confidentiality
bulletBe aware of the legal obligations on learning providers in relation to dyslexia

What are the benefits of attending?

The training is practical, so that you will take away a range of practical activities that you can use to support learners with dyslexia.

Throughout the day there will be opportunities to reflect on your own knowledge and practice, as well as your work with particular learners, so that the training will have an immediate, practical application in your workplace.

You will get a copy of the publication “Supporting learners with dyslexia in work-based learning” as well as an opportunity to work with experienced dyslexia specialists.
