Dyslexia: Training for Employers (Taster Session)
[Background] [Programme] BackgroundDyslexia affects 1 in 10 of the population and the TUC briefing “Dyslexia in the workplace - a guide for unions” (Hagan, 2004) recently estimated that up to 2.5 million workers in the UK are affected by dyslexia. The Disability Discrimination Act (1995) now requires all employers to take account of and address the needs of dyslexic people in their workforce and so NIACE is offering a one-day training event to help employers ensure that they address the needs of dyslexic people in their organisations. The aim of the training is to help employers become aware of dyslexia and how it may affect their workforce. The training will also help employers to address the needs of dyslexic people by making them aware of the "reasonable adjustments" they may need to make, particularly in relation to workplace training, as well as indicating what benefits dyslexic people may bring to the workplace. The training day will cover: Dyslexia Awareness Dyslexia & Human Resources Dyslexia & Training Delegates who come to this taster session may wish to recommend our other courses to their colleagues.
