[Background and Aims] [Audience] [Programme]

Background and Aim

Current policy priorities to widen participation in learning, to promote social inclusion and to support neighbourhood renewal are all agendas to which adult and community learning, arts organisations, museums, galleries, libraries and archives have much to contribute. Arts, culture and community learning are able to reach people that more formal provision and social policy interventions struggle to do. Good networking, effective partnerships and a collaborative approach are much more likely to be productive and fruitful than isolated or sector specific initiatives. This series of regional conferences puts the emphasis on good practice, purposeful collaboration and the opportunity to develop relevant knowledge, networking and skills. The content of the day will raise awareness about the challenges and opportunities presented by neighbourhood renewal to the achievement of a more socially inclusive and just society. Opportunities for sharing experience and for discussion will be a priority, as well as participation in an interactive exercise to develop understanding, knowledge and skills related to neighbourhood renewal and social inclusion.

The aims of these conferences are to bring together practitioners from arts organisations, the culture sector and adult and community learning to:

bulletdevelop understanding about social inclusion and neighbourhood renewal
bulletdiscuss projects and approaches that have worked well and which demonstrate positive collaboration and partnership
bulletpractise the skills and knowledge necessary to develop socially inclusive responses to the challenges of neighbourhood renewal.
