Creativity, Imagination and LearningThe impact of the Adult and Community Learning Fund
[Background & Aims] [Background to ACLF Fund] [Audience] [Programme] Background & AimsIn the Autumn of 2001, The Institute for Employment Studies (IES) was commissioned to undertake a comprehensive study asking questions of providers, practitioners and participants about the impact, if any, the ACLF Fund and its Projects had made. This conference provides the opportunity to hear the outcomes of the report: about what seems to work best and the challenges faced in widening participation. Each participant will receive a free summary report of the Institute for Employment Studies findings. John Healey MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Adult Skills has been invited to give the Keynote Address. The conference will also provide the opportunity for twelve projects to display outcomes of their work, for learners to talk about their experiences and for four projects to present examples of their reaching, teaching and learning strategies. The vibrancy and enthusiasm of project members is inspiring and their honesty about what works and what does not, will offer refreshing insights for anyone involved in adult and community learning. _______________________________ Background to ACLF FundThe Fund was established in 1998 with the first projects running in 1999. Applications to Round 6 of the Fund were received in December 2001 with projects beginning in April 2002; over 600 projects have now been supported and managed by the Basic Skills Agency and NIACE. The aim of the Fund was to respond to recommendations made in the Green Paper: ‘The Learning Age’ as well as to address widening participation issues as identified in the Kennedy report: ‘Learning Works’. It was designed to disburse approximately £5m per application round to projects that used lively, imaginative and creative approaches to reaching and teaching adults. A particular focus was placed on the exploration and development of integrated or embedded approaches to teaching basic skills. More details can be found on the ACLF webpages elsewhere on this site, including a full copy of the IES's final report. _______________________________
AudienceThis conference is targeted at policy makers, provider and practitioners in all sectors of adult education and lifelong learning with an interest in widening participation including those involved in ACLF Projects. _______________________________ Programme
