[Background & Aims] [Programme]
The first national 'Getting Connected' conference will include a
dissemination of the initial findings from the national evaluation of 'Getting
Connected' and opportunities throughout the day to share ideas and good practice
from projects across the UK. A key component will be the 'Stone Soup' workshops.
Prior to the conference, every delegate will be asked to send in an example of
the resources they use with young adult learners. These resources will be
amalgamated into a free resource pack that all participants can take away at the
end of the day. The conference will also provide the opportunity for delegates
to hear specialist inputs on the following:
Emotional Literacy Rosemary Napper, Consultant
Emotional Literacy is the ability to understand and deal with our emotions
(those of others around us) and with the consequences of these emotions. This
workshop will explore participants' understanding and application of Emotional
Literacy.
Accreditation & Portfolio Building Sally Mawson,
OCR
A practical workshop exploring the process of accreditation, assessment and
portfolio building with regard to informal learning.
LSC Funding and Soft Outcomes David Deegan, Greater
Manchester Learning and Skills Council
Funding structures rarely recognise and support informal learning. In this
workshop, delegates will have the opportunity to hear about and discuss a
briefing paper aimed at supporting practitioners with funding bids (co-developed
between NIACE/NYA and the Greater Manchester LSC).
Fun Learning Activities The Training Shop
Practitioners are constantly expected to deliver engaging and innovative
learning experiences for their clients. The Training Shop associates will look
at varying methods of working which appeal to a range of intelligences and
learning styles.
Mentoring Coral Gardiner, Learning Mentor Co-ordinator,
Walsall Cluster
The role of a Mentor can be difficult and often challenging to define across a
range of sectors. This workshop will explore the common characteristics of working in a mentoring capacity
and will stimulate debate and discussion of the issues.
National Evaluation of 'Getting Connected': Initial Findings
Centre for Education & Industry, University of Warwick
The Centre for Education and Industry will report back on initial findings from
the National Evaluation of 'Getting Connected' and consult with participants on
recommendations and the future direction of the evaluation process.
