Information, Advice & Guidance and Adult and Community Learning
[Background & Aims] [Audience] [Programme] Background & AimsOne of the keys to reaching and successfully engaging those who have not been active participants in adult learning is information, advice and guidance (IAG). The attractiveness and accessibility of initial information, who gives it, where and how, can help to attract potential learners. On-going IAG available during a learning programme can serve to motivate and harness new-found confidence to continue learning. Similarly, towards the end of a learning activity, the quality of IAG available can help to sustain interest and actively support progression to further or wider opportunities. The challenges for the sector are enormous. Who should be equipped to offer IAG? What are the most sensitive and effective approaches? When and where should the IAG be available? What qualifications and skills are needed by different players involved such as volunteers, tutors, organisers and partners. How can the National Guidance Council help practitioners and how can learners and practitioners inform The Council of their needs? This seminar offers the opportunity for discussion and dialogue as well as beginning to identify good IAG practice in adult and community learning (ACL). _______________________________ AudiencePractitioners involved in the DfES (Department for Education & Skills) Laptop Initiative and ACLF (Adult and Community Learning Fund) Projects. _______________________________ Programme
