The Adult Basic Skills Strategy Unit and the Learning and Skills Council are inviting you to take part in a seminar on embedded literacy, numeracy and ESOL.

The purpose of the day will be for practitioners to:

bulletShare planned work on embedded literacy, numeracy and ESOL provision and activities.
bulletConsider the key requirements of embedded literacy, numeracy and ESOL provision and activities.
bulletContribute to the specification for a DfES-funded project to develop guidance and provide recommendations about different models of embedded literacy, numeracy and ESOL and their funding.

We will be bringing together providers in a range of settings including AE, FE, Learndirect, the voluntary sector, work-based learning, probation, prisons, training providers and Jobcentre Plus. We are very keen to include organisations who may have little experience of delivering this kind of course but who are prepared to share their plans with others.

As a result of the conference, we will be identifying up to 20 courses to be included as part of the project's 'action research' phase which will take place during August - December 2002. Courses selected will have the opportunity of external professional support in order to help them develop, enhance and evaluate their model as required. Additional funding will be made available to providers to take this into account.

Also in July 2002...
