Vocational Education and Access for all

What is the core mission for adult learning in colleges.

Date: Tuesday 26 February 2002
Venue:  Woburn House, Tavistock square, London
Ref: C9-24
Fee: £100 per delegate (includes tea/coffee/lunch)

[Background & Aims] [Audience] [Programme]

Background & Aims

Government policy is placing different demands on the sector. For some time colleges have been encouraged to participate in widening participation and adopt an approach to lifelong learning that is inclusive to all learners.

There is also a clear encouragement for colleges to develop specialist vocational provision and to play a significant part in developing the essential skills for a 21st century economy. FE colleges have become all things to all people, and in doing so are in danger of revealing a lack of clarity of mission and caught between competing demands.

This conference will aim to consider the competing roles and traditions in the sector and to identify if there is a core mission for adult learning in colleges.
