This joint NIACE and Remploy conference, which is
supported by the European Social Fund, will consider
the implications of current Government policy on
practice when supporting disabled adults in the
transition from education and training into employment,
and in particular the LSC’s national strategy in this area,
“Learning for Living and Work”.
Many disabled people who are unemployed want to work
and there is currently a huge emphasis from the
Government on vocational skills training and the drive to
support disabled people off Incapacity Benefit and into
employment. In the post-16 education sector, there is a
recognition of the importance of closer collaboration
between education and training, employers and
supported employment agencies to bring together the
skills and employment agendas.
‘The LSC’s ambition in this area is far reaching and
reflects the Government’s wider intervention strategy to
deliver the skills and access to in-work support needed
to enhance disabled people’s employability.’
