Employer Based Learning

A growing number of adult learning takes place in the workplace, or is linked to it. It can be roughly divided into three types of programme:

bulletprogrammes directly relating to preparing for employment.
bulletprogrammes to update work related and professional skills.
bulletemployee development programmes" - which offer a range of learning opportunities, normally unrelated to the specific job, and designed to motivate individuals to learn, to provide access routes into lifelong learning and support personal development.

A number of employers and trades unions are members of NIACE, and the Institute does work on both practical and policy issues in this field.
