Professional support and international contacts

Hazel Ward

Hazel Ward found NIACE a helpful organisation during the time she was Dean of Adult Education, at West Herts College. She is still in contact, organising and supervising for the WEA, whilst enjoying relaxation in partial retirement. Her earlier responsibilities included adult literacy programmes and retirement planning education.

My memories are mainly of day conferences in the past in the Glaziers’ Hall with the great and good on the distant platform and, more recently the more informal setting of the venue on the Holloway Road - always-good refreshments and well organised!

Adults Learning has been the face of NIACE for me with its invaluable descriptions of good learning practice going on all over the country, notice board, book reviews.

I did phone Leicester once and had a very enjoyable talk with your namesake - Howard (Fisher). I was enquiring about adult education contacts in India prior to one of my trips and he was most helpful in finding some for me. One, Dr Sushana Merh-Ashraf of DACEE, University of Delhi, I have met in Delhi on several occasions and also escorted her on a visit to the Open University when she was in UK a couple of years back.
