e-learning in adult education has been ‘over-discussed but
under-researched’. This high-level summary and review of current research,
worldwide, into Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) addresses this
shortfall by examining CALL for ESOL learners in the UK (where there has been
little academic research into its relevance) in the global context of language
learning.
It has three main aims:
1) to provide academics and researchers in the field of ESOL with a synthesis of
the current debates in the literature of CALL worldwide;
2) to summarise all the empirically based knowledge of the use of commercially
developed CALL software with ESOL learners;
3) to inform policy and practice and help develop guidelines for further
research in the field.
It is an essential title for any education library, for managers
and practitioners involved with adult LLN and ESOL, and for developers of CALL
products and language learning software.
