Myths and misconceptions about the impact of ageing on the ability, need and will to learn have been with us for a long time. Even in an era when there are more older people than ever, enjoying longer and more fulfilling lives, our perceptions of ageing are influenced by these destructive myths and images from another time.
This book faces some of the these myths, presents the most recent evidence to refute them, or at least improve our knowledge of the issues, and considers what the truth means for those in education and elsewhere who are working to develop more, better and different learning opportunities for older people.
Alex Withnall is Director of Continuing Professional Development, Centre for Primary Health Care Studies, University of Warwick; Veronica McGivney is Principal Research Officer at NIACE; Jim Soulsby is Development Officer of NIACE’s Older & Bolder Programme.
