Women ‘returners’ are an increasingly important segment of the workforce but they experience a number of problems in suitable training courses and jobs commensurate with their skills and experience.
This study examines the situation of women who wish to return to employment, education and training. It starts with an examination of the nature of the jobs available and the main problems women experience when seeking employment and re-entering the workplace. It goes on to identify the education and training needs of women returners, the kinds of education and training available to them, and the most common barriers to participation they face.
This succinct overview of the issues facing women returners will be of interest to education and training providers and tutors, TECs, guidance workers and employers who wish to attract women returners and make the best use of their potential.
