What ‘Skills for Grandparents’ does

Funded by the Skills for Life Strategy Unit and developed by the Basic Skills Agency at NIACE, ‘Skills for Grandparents’ informs the rollout of family literacy, language and numeracy (FLLN) programmes for grandparents, particularly those aged 35–50, with gaps in their literacy, language and/or numeracy skills.

The ‘Skills for Grandparents’ programme will

bullet

improve the language, literacy and/or numeracy skills of learners who are grandparents;

bullet

extend grandparents’ skills in supporting their grandchildren’s developing communication, language, literacy and/or numeracy skills;

bullet

provide progression routes for grandparents returning to learning and employment.

This CD:

bullet

provides local authorities with support strategies for making improvements in FLLN for grandparents;

bullet

incorporates the overall aim of raising standards of economically valuable skills in the workplace;

bullet

provides mainstream modular courses into family programmes.

the complete Skills for Grandparents resource pack in PDF format;

bullet

session plans and resources;

bullet

PowerPoint demonstrations;

bullet

activity sheets, handouts and OHTs.
