Marie Kerwin

Regional Development Officer, North West

Marie Kerwin has worked in adult education for 25 years, in a wide variety of organisations. As a qualified teacher Marie has taught in the further education sector as a basic skills tutor and has also had extensive management responsibilities. Her last position before joining NIACE was with a general FE college where she had responsibility for promoting inclusive learning while managing learning support and basic skills development.

At NIACE over the last 3 years, Marie has been involved in a number of literacy language and numeracy projects either to develop capacity or to evaluate activity. Projects have included the evaluation of the Skills for Life Strategy in East Manchester and more recently she project managed the QIA and NRDC project, Stick with it - Motivating Learners to Persist, Progress and Achieve. This was a two year research and development project to increase the evidence base and to develop tools and techniques to support learners, practitioners and managers as they try to overcome the barriers to completion and continuing learning.
