Empowering Asylum Seekers to Support the Regional Economic and Local Communities (ASSET UK)
A series of regional seminars took place in 2003-04 to raise awareness, inform, collate and promote good practice and identify needs in working with asylum seekers. The seminars focused in particular on issues relating to education, training, employment and volunteering. Each seminar had a regional focus and sought to identify regional strategies, services and projects that relate to asylum seekers. The series of seminars has now been completed and a report will be published on this site later in the year. For more information contact fiona.aldridge@niace.org.uk
Asylum seekers and refugees: education, training, employment, skills and services in the Black Country
A programme of research, undertaken in partnership with Birmingham University, to help fill gaps in knowledge by identifying the size, skills and needs of the asylum seeker and refugee population in the Black Country, the issues they face and how best to support them in relation to those issues. Parallel projects have also been undertaken in Coventry & Warwickshire and the Black Country. This project is due to report at the beginning of 2005.
