Effective Practice with Underrepresented Groups of People

(Acquired Disabilities, Sensory impairments, Long Term Health Difficulties)

Project Status: Completed (December 2005 - February 2006)

Within this project, NIACE looked into the experiences of learning for adult learners with acquired disabilities, sensory impairments and long-term health difficulties. We consulted with learners, teachers, carers, support staff, and curriculum and course organisers to identify practices that were inclusive, imaginative and effective in engaging learners.

We identified positive practice relating to teaching practice, outreach and marketing strategies, gatekeepers, transport, course planning and staff skills and knowledge. The findings from this project were reported at NIACE’s Inclusive Learning Conference, September 2006.
