E-Assessment - Effective use of E-assessment in ACL

Project Status : Completed

Electronic means of initial, formative and summative assessment have been pioneered in Adult and Community Learning (ACL) using a range of web-based tools for objective testing, along with portfolio approaches to the collection of digital evidence of achievement.

Evidence from the early pilot projects and inspector comments had suggested that although there is support for the principle of using digital methods, there was a need for the practice to be developed to ensure that evidence collection contributed to and did not distract from the learning experience. Issues associated with authentication were also raised.

This project used action research techniques to explore and document effective practice in the collection of evidence for assessment using digital technologies. The results were used to inform the creation of staff development materials.
