The Association for Science Education (ASE) is the professional
membership body for science education, with about 20,000 members all over
the UK. It is committed to promoting high-quality education in science at
all levels from pre-school to higher education. In this context, it
supports the professional development of its members, who are mainly
school teachers, plus some lecturers and some technicians. Development
activities include INSET support and teaching resources, journals and
other special publications, an electronic newsletter and an annual 3-day
national conference held each January.
The ASE has a regional structure with 15 branches, including Scotland,
Wales and Northern Ireland. Its Chief Executive is Dr Derek Bell and the
main office base is in College Lane, Hatfield, Herts, AL20 9AA. The ASE is
a partner together with Hertfordshire LEA, SETPOINT Herts and Bio-Rad
Laboratories in the Eastern Region’s new Science Learning Centre, due to
open on October 2004.
