Practitioner Training and Guidance

Project Status: Current

Funded by DfES, this project devised and piloted a training package for practitioners supporting literacy, language and numeracy development with young adults who are disadvantaged, disengaged from or on the margins of formal education. The package comprises a guidance publication and a flexible resource for supporting literacy, language and numeracy teaching and learning with and for young adults, supported by awareness raising training.

Currently, work is underway with 5 sites across the country to pilot and evaluate the guidance framework. The 5 sites chosen represent the Youth Service sector, the Young Offender sector, Foyers, FE Colleges and Young Women’s projects, and are spread over a wide geographical area in the country. During summer 2007, these 5 sites consulted on the document and then piloted it with their work with young people in autumn 2007. The training event was held in December 2007.

For further information, please contact Bethia McNeil, bethiam@nya.org.uk

The publication will be launched in Spring 2008.
