It is difficult, if not impossible, to evaluate the impact of EDPs in causal or
quantitative ("bottom line") terms. Work undertaken for the UK government's Department for Education and Employment suggests
that benefits include:
Organisations feeling that EDPs help them handle change more effectively and to work
more flexibly.
EDPs encouraging a "learning culture" in the workplace, increasing the
accessibility of training and enhancing its image.
EDPs contributing to higher standards of productivity, efficiency, quality and customer
service.
EDPs being instrumental in enhancing confidence, morale, commitment and motivation in
the workforce.
EDPs helping communications around the workplace, thus contributing to teamwork and
increasing delegation of responsibility.
