NIACE supports the learning of asylum seekers.

As part of A Right to a Voice, NIACE is setting up groups for asylum seekers, supported by volunteers, to meet weekly and help each other. A programme of activities, Welcome to Britain - [Word], will be a focus for learning some basic English and getting to know the local area.

We are also mapping the existing groups and volunteers who have contacted us. We will match volunteers with groups before the end of February. If you have been in touch with your details, you'll hear from us very soon.

What can you do?

The campaign

A Right to a Voice was launched in London on the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights.

The purpose of the campaign is to reveal the impact of ESOL policy changes upon asylum seekers as a vulnerable group, highlight the injustice and inefficiency of the current policy with regard to access to ESOL provision and seek to change government policy in England regarding access to ESOL.

What can you do?

  • Write to your MP and ask for ESOL to be re-instated for asylum seekers from Day One
  • Collect case studies and send them to NIACE
  • Email your colleagues with campaign information
