What's it like to be a winner?

For people like Patrick O' Mahoney, from Gloucestershire, winning an Adult Learners' Week Award was an important recognition of his remarkable learning journey.

Formerly an alcoholic and unable to read, Patrick was considered by some to be a hopeless case. But with a literacy course under his belt he managed to land a responsible job, which helped to boost his self esteem and his standard of living. Patrick's perseverance was rewarded with an Adult Learners' Week Award and a trip to the Awards ceremony in London.

Patrick is a winner of one of around 100 awards given each year to individuals, groups, families and projects whose learning journeys are an inspiration to others.
