About Adult Learners' Week
Adult Learners' Week at the end of May is a unique opportunity to run or promote your learning projects. The week-long campaign falls in May - from Saturday 17 to Friday 23 May 2008.
Every year, ALW helps inspire thousands of people to see what learning could do for them, offering them the chance to catch up on skills they've missed out on in the past, or develop themselves for the future.
In addition to events on a shopfloor near you, the annual learning-fest also includes high-profile media campaigns, conferences and parliamentary activity pulled together by NIACE, the adult learning organisation.
Traditionally, unions have often focused on Learning at Work Day, on the Thursday of ALW, when it's come to planning awareness-raising events. For ideas for your own events why not take a look at some case studies from previous years?
What's in it for me?
As an employer, a union learning representative or workplace training champion, Adult Learners' Week gives you the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of other people in your workplace whilst helping you to reach your own business objectives. Adult Learning develops skills and increases knowledge; research also shows that learning is good for your health and mind. It's a great way to maintain a healthy and motivated workforce. Adult Learning at work also contributes to increased productivity and lower staff turnover rates. For more details see our How Adult Learners' Week can work for you pages.
You can plan, run and celebrate learning events to engage more and different people in learning throughout your organisation. For example, you might like to run an introductory taster session in IT skills or a foreign language. Or why not invite in a local hairdressing college to demonstrate styling techniques, or ask a local gym to do a fitness audit and help people learn how to be healthy and active?

The Thursday of Adult Learners' Week is celebrated across the country as 'Learning at Work' day and so would be an ideal date to kick start your organisation's learning activities.
