Publicity
In 2007 Adult Learners' Week generated over £4 million worth of press coverage. It was reported in national newspapers including the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent, Mail on Sunday and The Sun. It was also a prominent feature on the BBC, Channel 4 and BBC Radio. Adult Learners' Week activities also received considerable coverage in regional and local newspapers, television and radio.
In 2007, NIACE also commissioned supplements in The Guardian, The Mirror and the Daily Express, generating added publicity for the campaign's messages. Additional publicity was on BBC Ceefax and the BBC on-line learning website. Publicity materials were distributed and displayed throughout the country in a wide range of libraries, colleges, jobcentres, and many other public places.
Winning stories are often the content for this media coverage and so organizations and employers that have winning nominations or that hold events will always be mentioned. Adult Learners' Week is a great way of advertising at minimal cost.
You can obtain free Adult Learners' Week posters, bookmarks and other materials from NIACE by using our order form - [PDF]. You can even customise some of the posters for your own purposes. Download customisable posters - [PDF].
Online calendar
Event holders are also encouraged to register and publicise their event through our online calendar, particularly as these are used by the freephone campaign helpline (learndirect 0800 100 900).
In 2007, over 36,000 people visited the on-line calendar to see what was happening in their area. You can promote your local learning events to your employees in a number of ways: through your company intranet system; staff payslips; team meetings; company newsletters or by putting up posters around the premises to catch people's attention.
To raise awareness in the community, publicise your activity through newsletters, newspapers and local radio stations as well as public reception points.
