Eligibility Criteria

Individuals

Learners who wish to be nominated for an Adult Learners’ Week Individual Award must:

bullethave undertaken some of their learning between January 2007 and January 2008
bulletlive in England
bulletbe aged 21 or over on 25 January 2008 or;
bulletbe aged 16-21 and have had a break of at least three years from full time study

Groups

We define groups very broadly – they must comprise three or more people – but it could be work colleagues who have come together to brush up on their maths or IT skills, friends who have decided to learn a new hobby or people who are pursuing a shared interest.

Groups who wish to be nominated for an Adult Learners’ Week Award must:

bulletlive in England only.
bulletconsist of three or more people who have learnt together.
bulletbe, in the main, adults aged 21 or over on 25 January 2008 unless they have had a break of three years from full time study
bullethave undertaken some of their learning between January 2007 and January 2008

Families

We define families very broadly – whether it’s grandparents and grandchildren working together to learn IT skills, Mum and Dad improving their maths to help the children’s homework, or a brother and sister learning a skill together to help the family business. However the family is made up, we want to hear the remarkable stories of how learning has changed people’s lives.

Families who wish to be nominated for an Adult Learners’ Week Award must:

bulletlive in England
bulletcomprise at least one adult aged 18 or over
bullethave undertaken some of their learning between January 2007 and January 2008

Opening Doors to Adult Learners Award

The Opening Doors to Adult Learners Awards recognise the achievements of organisations such as employers, trade unions, the voluntary and community sector as well as local authorities and colleges. We’re looking for projects that celebrate originality in design, show a clear route of progression and above all, evidence of a positive impact on learners.

bulletEntry is open to projects based in England only.
bulletProgrammes must have been running for a minimum of nine months and be ongoing.
bulletThe nominated programme should provide learning opportunities for
bulletadults who are aged 21 or over on 25 January 2008 or;
bulletyoung adults aged 16-21 who have had a break of at least three years from full-time study
