How can technology help boost adult numeracy skills?
It’s common knowledge that many people’s numeracy skills could do with a boost, but how can technology help do this either in the classroom or in day-to-day life?
As part of the Maths4Us initiative, we’re running a challenge to develop three apps to help improve adult numeracy in England. Later in the spring we will be inviting teams to take up the challenge and present their ideas for an app. The winners will receive funding – out of a total of £70k available – to develop working prototypes for mobile devices, web browsers or web platforms. A public vote will determine the favourite, which will become the National App 4 Maths.
But before we get going we need to understand what the current needs and potential solutions are. To help inform the criteria these apps need to achieve, we’re running a free focus group in London this coming Monday, 28 January.
We still have spaces left and you don’t need to be an expert in apps or technology to come along. We just need you to be someone involved directly or indirectly in the learning or teaching of numeracy. So, if you’re a learner or a practitioner email mathstech@niace.org.uk as soon as possible to attend.
