Put the power of learning in your hands

This latest guest blog in a series from Maths4us partners is written by Beth Kelly – the Chief Executive Officer for Learning Unlimited, a mathematics specialist in Education with over 25 years of experience teaching adults.

Things are starting to heat up here at Learning Unlimited as we make progress on our role in the Maths4us initiative. We are one of a number of partners involved in the maths initiative so, what does Learning Unlimited have to offer?

Our job is to use our maths experts to design and develop three Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to help improve people’s math skills. We will be developing videos, resources and activities for three MOOCs on:

  • Financial Literacy
  • Everyday Maths
  • Helping My Child with Maths

You will be able to access the MOOCs from anywhere using the internet and each one will include real life examples, videos, games and assessments to review maths skills – hopefully in a practical way.  Our courses have no cost and put the power of learning into your hands.

We know that often the most difficult part of beginning a challenge is just that – beginning it. Many of us go through day-to-day life already using maths and don’t realise it; like working out timetables to get to an appointment or checking our change in the local shops.

Ultimately, Learning Unlimited believes that learning should be empowering. By ‘having a go’ on the MOOCs you can learn at you own pace and when you want to. We aim to provide a positive learning experience through small steps. We want learning to be engaging.

We are into the design stage and hope to have some trials running in the late spring early summer. So you can begin the learning adventure and start applying it to your everyday lives! We are looking forward to working with our partners in creating an improved maths force in the UK!
