[Background] [Objectives] [Aims] [Audience] [Programme] [Application Form]

Background

In May 2009 the government set out its new strategy to ESOL in A New Approach to ESOL. The NIACE project A Woman's Place is cited in the strategy document as an example of a project which is improving quality and responsiveness to priorities. This successful and sustainable approach has helped to inform the development of the new approach to ESOL.

There are practical implications in A New Approach for the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) / Skills Funding Agency (SFA), ESOL providers, the voluntary sector and local authorities. These interactive training events for ESOL practitioners will provide the opportunity to hear about A Woman's Place approach to engaging women with language needs from settled minority ethnic communities. We will also discuss and explore the practical implications of A New Approach and A Woman's Place as part of workshop activities.
