Background

Like other organisations that receive funding from the public purse, learning and skills providers are increasingly expected to show how they make a difference and deliver both direct and wider social benefits for learners, partners and the communities in which they work.  Among providers, there is a growing awareness that focusing on their role in generating social value can strengthen both their external relationships and internal planning and quality improvement.  Yet, while there is a desire to respond appropriately to this agenda, for many it is new and unfamiliar area.

The workshops provide a practical introduction to social value and impact measurement, targeted specifically at providers in the adult learning and skills sector.  Based on the latest approaches to impact measurement in learning and skills, the workshops will focus on equipping participants with the “building blocks” of knowledge, understanding and skills to develop this work in their own organizations.  Over the last year, NIACE has developed an innovative suite of generic tools and resources to support learning providers to understand and approach social value and impact measurement.  Workshop participants will become familiar with these tools and how to use them.  They will also learn how this approach could underpin the application of nationally recognized, accredited methodologies for measuring impact, such as Social Return on Investment.

We are able to offer these workshops at a substantially subsidized rate thanks to funding from the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS).

  • introduce participants to key concepts and approaches in impact measurement and social value, including methods and tools to assist with identifying, evidencing and reporting wider social outcomes;
  • provide practical opportunities for participants to begin applying to their own work, a range of tools that have been developed and rigorously tested to support impact measurement in the adult learning and skills sector;
