Background
The policy environment is fast moving at the present time with proposals around the Heseltine Review, the Single Pot for local funding, for City Deals, Community budgets and the anticipated spending review. Amidst this change agenda, there are some consistent messages:
- we need to be smarter and more effective in how we use resources: and
- we need to listen to and respond in different and tailored ways with each type of business.
Micro-businesses are defined as businesses employing fewer than ten people. Although they account for over 25% of UK job vacancies, micro-businesses remain relatively unengaged by learning providers. Where micro-businesses have been successfully engaged, numerous job opportunities have been opened up for unemployed learners and local micro-businesses have been helped to prosper and expand.
This one day training introduces delegates to the unique nature of micro-businesses and to the approach required to engage them. As well as introducing helpful approaches to delivering pre-employment training, Apprenticeships and work-based training for micro-businesses, this training course enables providers to consider the cost effectiveness for their organisations of engaging micro-businesses.

Aims
This training aims to introduce learning provider managers and practitioners to the nature of micro-businesses and to practical approaches to engaging and delivering pre-employment training, apprenticeships and work based training for micro-businesses.
Participants who attended this training previously said:
Coming from a training provider where over 95% of our employers are micros/ SME's, I have found the training very useful and I have learned a lot from it... I would recommend it
A good overview for re-focusing on micro-businesses as a crucial aspect of my organisation's overall business approach.
It opens up another "hidden job market" that may have not been considered before
Good insight into the importance of engaging what is approximately 30% of the marketplace in terms of potential apprenticeship business
Good insight as to how we could improve our relationship with micros.
