[Background] [Audience] [Agenda] [Event Information] [Application Conditions] [Application Form]
Poverty is often associated with developing countries, where a lack of food and clean water can often be a daily challenge. Europe is also affected by poverty and social exclusion. It may not be as severe, but is nonetheless unacceptable. Poverty and exclusion of one individual amounts to the poverty of society as a whole. Europe can only be strong if each individual’s potential is realised.
There is no miracle solution to put an end to poverty and social exclusion. However, a large number of nongovernmental organisations in the UK will be doing what they can to lend their weight. NIACE is one of those and feels that the time is ripe to renew the sector’s commitment to solidarity, social justice and greater inclusion. The links between learning and social exclusion are strong.
This event brings together the key themes of this agenda, with findings from the NIACE Inquiry into the Future of Lifelong Learning. The Inquiry also published two key papers on the impact of poverty on lifelong learning. There have been strong links made between people’s literacy, language and numeracy and future life chances. This event is for Skills for Life practitioners who would like to find out more about the links between social justice and inclusion and the impact that Skills for Life learning can have on learners’ life opportunities.
