Background

As part of the Learning Revolution MLA is funding regional training courses to increase understanding of the key features of family learning and their relationship with museums, libraries and archives within local authorities.

Over 3,000 museums, libraries and archives have pledged their support for the new informal adult learning movement set out in the Learning Revolution White Paper. This represents a tremendous commitment to support adults to learn throughout life. The research is now clear about the benefits of family learning for both adult and child and its significance in strengthening family life.

Aims

To increase understanding of the key features of family learning and their relationship with museums, libraries and archives, including working with priority families. By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

• analyse skills developed in different family learning activities with museums, libraries and archives
• develop expertise in linking family learning activities to generic learning outcomes
• develop more ideas of how to link skills developed in family learning activities with museums, libraries and archives to national indicators.

Delegates are encouraged to bring details of their family programmes with them for developing learning outcomes for adults and children, mapping to generic learning outcomes in family learning and linking to national indicators.
