Background

The course focuses on the setting of learning outcomes for adults and children and how these can be developed into interactive intergenerational learning.

Participants will have the opportunity to consider the needs of families in their own setting and explore what is involved in good practice in intergenerational family learning

Training Objectives

By the end of the day participants will have:

  • identified the key factors in planning intergenerational family learning;
  • identified key partners to work with in planning and delivery;
  • developed ideas for curriculum development and SMART learning outcomes for intergenerational family learning;and,
  • planned a session for adults and children.

Key features of intergenerational learning in the context of family learning

Key perceived differences between teaching adults and children

Relevant curricula for adults and children

Embedding literacy,language and numeracy in intergenerational family learning

Task analysis on family activities to identify SMART learning outcomes for adults and children

Identification of resources

Classroom management and setting ground rules for intergenerational family learning

Developing partnerships to support recruitment and delivery

Planning and sharing a family learning session for adults and children

Individual planning for developing intergenerational family learning in local areas

Round-up and evaluation

Informal discussions on individual concerns and ideas
