What this workshop will do

By the end of the session participants will have:

  • increased their knowledge of apprenticeships, including vocational and Functional/Key Skills qualifications;
  • an improved understanding of the local authority context - care leavers and corporate parenting;
  • increased their awareness of the needs and characteristics of care leavers;
  • explored how to manage care leavers – including key issues that may arise when working with care leavers in apprenticeships;
  • a range of practical strategies and approaches to use when dealing with common issues and problems;
  • explored how to manage expectations - looking at balancing both the expectations of managers and the care leaver apprentice, and how to set realistic expectations; and,
  • increased their confidence in how to measure achievement and progress –giving appropriate responsibility, setting challenging goals and managing progress towards them.

Participants will receive free copies of the 'Really Useful Book of Learning and Earning 2011' (Care leavers) and 'Working with Your Apprentice' (Guidance for supervisors and mentors).
