Background
Think About It (TIA)
Project dissemination event invitation
With global events shaping local economies, it can feel as though people and communities have no control. The purpose of the TAI project is to develop learning materials and approaches that can play a part in the important process of creating ways in which young people are helped to take that control back and to shape their lives. This has been done through seven pilot projects across England in Barking, Hastings, Bradford, Islington, Rugby, Gosport and Camden.
There are several drivers informing TAI: the cohesion, empowerment, informal learning and active citizenship agendas. Current policy asserts that a shift in power will create challenge and debate and claims empowerment as a solution to disengagement. An increasing number of organisations are working under an ‘active citizenship’ banner which involves an active learning approach that supports learners to take part in public life at any level, from the very local to global. The project has also explored how informal learning can be a trigger to the formal.
The event will allow for interactive dissemination of the pilots and will capture learner voice and enable debate around the policy and practice implications of the work.
